about us:
Tom Davis
I'm a former bartender, brewer, an SFU philosophy undergraduate, and a 12 year amateur winemaker who decided to pursue my passion (with my wife Tracey) for wine.
I was born in St. Louis, Missouri (the Show Me state) and as former-Catholic doubting-Thomas, I have skepticism in my blood, hence my interest in global warming, and science.
I grew up in Port Moody, B.C., and then worked as bartender and also a brewmaster, and went to university in Burnaby, B.C.
I made wine with friends (Andrew Tietzen, Larry Hapak, and Peter Rae) over a 12 year period, using winegrapes from the Willamette and Illinois River Valleys in Oregon, the Okanagan Valley in B.C., and the Yakima Valley in Washington.
Countless hours of tasting great wines and raucous debate with my friends, about the merits of various wines, taught me many lessons about wine. Working as a home-brewer turned brewmaster of the Horseshoe Bay Brewing Co., helped me learn the principles of fermentation, the rigors of cleanliness, handling large quantities of liquids, and to develop an imagination about beer, and by extension, wine.
Working as a bartender taught me the value of customer service, and listening to customer feedback.
